Yorkshire and Humber NHS trust chooses PKB

Patients Know Best (PKB), the U.K’s largest patient portal, announced that Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has chosen the provider to deliver its digital platform to a population of over 600,000 residents within Yorkshire and Humber.
The trust, which operates two main hospitals (Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital) will be using PKB to empower patients to self-manage their care and to create cash savings for the trust.
Initially, over 200,000 patients who receive care and treatment at the trust will digitally access their health records. For the first time, this will shift the dynamic between healthcare professionals and their patients, placing more emphasis on self-management whilst improving efficiencies and releasing cash savings for the trust.
Reducing the amount of clinical correspondence posted out can save hospitals millions of pounds every year. Digital access to letters cuts down the number of appointments where patients don’t turn up by almost a third whilst also reducing postage costs by more than a quarter.
“This is good news for patients and the health economy within Yorkshire and Humber”, said Mohammad Al-Ubaydli, CEO and Founder of Patients Know Best. “Unlike other hospital or GP portals, which tie patients to a single institution, patients using PKB will benefit from a borderless patient portal. It means patients can access their health record from anywhere in the world and share it with any institution, professional or carer wherever they are. And the trust can achieve tangible cash savings. It’s a win-win situation!”
A number of clinical specialities have been identified to ‘go live’ from April 2019 at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with a trust-wide roll-out expected to follow shortly after.
