Patients to get access to advance remote patient monitoring within their personal health record

Getting access to healthcare at the tips of your fingers without the need of visiting a doctor. It seems like utopia but now, it will become a lot closer for hundreds of thousands of patients across the UK and in the Netherlands. Dr Mohammad Al-Ubaydli, founder of UK based Patients Know Best, and Prof Daan Dohmen, founder of Amsterdam based Luscii announce they will integrate their digital health platforms deeply. For users of PKB’s personal health record, this means they will be able to access Luscii’s advanced remote patient monitoring programs and AI generated data for over 50 disease areas bringing healthcare from the waiting room to the living room.

Millions of patients accessing their personal health records

Patients Know Best is used by millions  of patients in different NHS regions to be able to directly access their personal health record and interact with care professionals via tools such as messaging/questionnaires. Patients can login to access everything from appointment letters and test results, to their multidisciplinary care plans. This is empowering patients to play an active role in their health and wellbeing.

Virtual ward monitoring

At the same time Luscii’s remote patient monitoring platform supports care professionals to treat their patients remotely and prevent unnecessary check-ups and hospitalisations. The platform quickly scaled during COVID-19 as the building block for virtual wards in a lot of NHS regions and in the Netherlands. In these virtual wards, patients were provided with a pulse oximeter and asked to take daily readings at home, alongside temperature and symptoms. The Luscii platform analyses all data and if any abnormalities are detected, a care professional is informed right away. Today, doctors and nurses use the platform to remotely monitor over 50 conditions, like heart failure, COPD, gestational hypertension and many more.

1+1 = 3

With the announcement Luscii’s monitoring capabilities will be integrated with Patient Knows Best Personal Health Record, patients using the platform will not have to go to the doctor for regular check-ups since they will be able to do this directly from home. Based on the remote monitoring program activated by the doctor or nurse, patients will be notified to take readings, fill out questionnaires or get self care advice. As Luscii’s artificial intelligence informs a care professional when attention is needed. The outcomes of this will also be fed back to patients via their PHR  For patients this means they have all their care communication in one place and are guided throughout their patient journey. For doctors and nurses it means they can create space for care by saving time as they only have to see the patients that need it. Finally this means increasing capacity supporting the reduction of waiting time and more personal care at the right time.

UK and Netherlands

The collaboration between the two scale-ups will start in both wider London as well as the Netherlands. The integration is another important step in making digital health available to all citizens in both countries as promised by both the Dutch government as well as the NHS.
